Spilr — Terms of Use
The short version
Spilr is a private journaling app. You write, it keeps what you write, and some features send that text to an AI model to reflect it back to you. What you write stays yours.
Spilr Pro is an auto-renewing subscription billed by Apple. It renews until you cancel it, and you cancel it in your Apple ID settings, not here.
Spilr is not therapy, not medical care, and not an emergency service.
This agreement
These terms are between you and Spilr, the publisher of the Spilr app. Using the app means accepting them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
Your use of Spilr on Apple platforms is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies in addition to these terms. Where the two conflict on a point Apple's agreement covers, Apple's agreement governs. Apple is not a party to these terms, but Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of them and may enforce them against you.
Who can use Spilr
You must be at least 13. Spilr is not intended for anyone younger, and we do not knowingly keep accounts for children — see the Privacy Policy.
You must not be located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, or listed on any US Government prohibited-party list. Apple requires us to say this and it is a condition of your licence.
Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Spilr on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service. You may not sell, rent, sublicense, redistribute, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the source of the app, except where that restriction is unenforceable under the law that applies to you.
Your account and your content
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping access to it secure.
What you write is yours. We claim no ownership of your entries. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your entries, to derive things from them so features like Daily Chat, Echoes, Mirror and CBT templates work, and — when AI Insights is on — to send that text to our AI provider to generate a response for you. Nothing more. We do not publish it, sell it, advertise against it, or use it to train AI models.
You can delete it. Settings → Delete account permanently erases your entries, everything derived from them, your photos, and the account itself. It is immediate and not recoverable.
Do not use Spilr to store or transmit anything illegal, or anything you have no right to store. We may suspend or close an account that does.
Spilr Pro — subscriptions and billing
Spilr Pro is sold as an auto-renewable subscription, and also as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown on the purchase screen before you buy, in your local currency, and can differ by country.
Billing. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. We never see or hold your card details.
Renewal. A subscription renews automatically for the same period at the same price unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
Cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it. We cannot cancel it for you — Apple holds the billing relationship.
Free trial. If a free trial is offered and you take it, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it converts to a paid subscription automatically.
Refunds. Refunds for purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple under Apple's terms, and we cannot issue them. Apple's refund request page is the place to ask. If the app fails to conform to any warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation of any kind.
Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, Apple will tell you and ask you to agree before the new price is charged.
What Spilr is not
Spilr is a journal with reflective features. It is not therapy, not medical or mental-health care, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for a professional. Nothing the app says is clinical advice, and no feature is designed or tested for crisis response.
If you are in danger or in crisis, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line. Do not rely on this app.
The reflective features are powered by a large language model. It can be wrong, it can misread you, and it can produce text that does not describe you at all. Treat what it says as a prompt to think, not a finding about you. What is sent, and when, is set out in the Privacy Policy, and you can turn AI Insights off in Settings.
Availability and changes to the app
We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Features can change, and features can be removed. If we remove something you paid for, that is a refund question, and Apple handles refunds.
Maintenance and support for the app are our responsibility, not Apple's. Apple has no obligation to provide any support for Spilr.
Our responsibility, and its limits
We are responsible for the app and for any claim that it does not do what we said it does, that it caused harm, that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, or that it infringes someone's intellectual property. Apple is not responsible for any of those, and any such claim goes to us, not to Apple.
Except where the law does not allow us to limit it, the app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost data beyond what the law requires. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, and nothing here takes away consumer rights you have under the law where you live.
Ending it
You can stop using Spilr at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to. If we close your account without cause and you are mid-subscription, ask Apple for a refund of the unused period.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will update this page and the date at the top, and surface a notice in the app rather than relying on you to re-read it.
